Help the Museum to acquire an amazing Iron Age Hoard

Children’s Creative Writing Competition

The Winner

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the first year of the Friends’ Creative Writing Competition was

Linus Barnes, aged 10

On winning, he said “I decided to take part in the competition because I thought it would be fun and challenging writing a story based around an object in the museum, and because I wanted to win the prize money. I really enjoyed the awards event, and I was amazed when I won first prize.

I was really proud of myself! This has made me want to write other stories and enter more competitions. I love creative writing because you can invent characters, worlds and adventures and play with interesting words and ideas. If you want to become a better writer or be an author when you grow up, these competitions help you to improve.“

Linus’s winning entry will be published in our Autumn Friends Newsletter. The next competition will open in October 2025, to be judged in July 2026. It will be open to 7-11 year old children attending schools in Oxfordshire – Head Teachers will have all the information.

A reminder will be posted on the website and in our newsletter.
