William Turner of Oxford and Shipton-on-Cherwell

Speaker: Colin Harrison

Senior Curator of European Art, Ashmolean Museum

This talk will explore the work of the local artist and architect, William Turner. He was a precocious painter in watercolours, who exhibited at the Royal Academy when still a teenager. His uncle acquired the manor of Shipton-on-Cherwell in 1803, and Turner was instrumental in the reconstruction of the parish church in 1831. He travelled widely, but throughout his career returned to favourite subjects in Shipton.
