Post Medieval (17th century) seal matrix, Culham OXCMS : 2023.127

This type of seal matrix would have acted as a personal seal for the closing of documents using melted wax on which the matrix was impressed. The letters and motif on the matrix would enable the identification of the sender.

The design of two letters separated by a heart has been found on seal-matrices since the Medieval period but is most common from the 17th century.
